First Version

Week 5

This week marks the halfway point of the quarter, and the halfway point of the project. There is still a lot of work to be done, but I believe that I can accomplish my goals if I pace myself well. In addition to the elevator, a new element has been introduced into the Dreamscapes project- the mannequin. The mannequins will be seen beginning in the mall and will infest and spread throughout the environments like a plague using the elevator as a means to travel.

Week 4

I've made further progress on the modelling and texturing/shading of the elevator and will begin creating the variations of the elevator to correspond to each environment. We have also selected first few shots that the elevator will be composited into. Further progress to come this week.

Week 3

For each of the environments, the elevator will have different variations to add variety and character. This week, I further polished the model and began texturing the elevator. Using reference photos I gathered, I was able to recreate the textures of the decals and labels for the different elevator buttons. There is still a lot of work to be done before reaching a state of completion on the textures and I can begin on the variations, but I hope to achieve completion by week 4.

Week 2

The base mesh of the elevator model is about 90% finished. To showcase my progress, I imported the mesh into Unreal Engine 5 to light and throw some basic shaders on top. Disclaimer: the final product will be rendered in a more powerful render engine such as Arnold, Redshift, or Cycles.

Week 1

The film will feature an elevator that opens and closes to the various different locations. My first job will consist of compositing an elevator into these environments in which it does not belong:

A 3D elevator model will be composited into:

  • An alley way

  • An outdoor field/marsh

  • A walking trail

  • An abandoned shopping mall

  • The interdimensional Subway (previous senior project of mine, being incorporated)

My first task for this project will be to model a photo-realistic elevator interior and exterior.

I will be modeling the elevator in Maya/Blender and texturing in Substance 3D painter. My goal is to make the elevator as realistic and faithful as possible, to convince the viewer that the elevator exists in a tangible space.

I will also be tasked with compositing these environments into a live action plate of an inside perspective of the elevator.
